Kor’s Cafe
Several years ago, a client decided to start a local cafe that specialised in Caribbean cuisine. As part of her marketing campaign, she wanted to create a strong online presence on popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. To achieve this, she needed a one-page website that would provide information about her cafe, such as the location, opening times, menu items, and her background story. Knowing that her customers would mostly access the website through mobile devices, she wanted it to be mobile-friendly. This is where I came in.
I was tasked with designing and developing a website that would effectively represent the client’s business and cater to her customers’ needs. With a completion deadline of two months, I saw an opportunity to learn and use Figma, one of the leading wireframe applications in the world. Although I had prior experience with Adobe XD, I wanted to explore Figma further and explore its features to design the website.
Once the client approved the design, I started the development process. Although I had some React experience, I had never built a “full-on” React website before. This project allowed me to put my skills to the test and prove that I could create a React website. I incorporated fundamental CSS properties like flex and grid, and implemented the BEM model (block, element, and modifier), which makes it easier for other developers to read my code. I also used media queries to ensure that the website was responsive and compatible with most devices.
The landing page was divided into several components, including the Navigation Bar, Header, About Us, Drinks, Menu, Chef, Video, Gallery, and Footer. Once I completed the development process, I installed Google Analytics to track website traffic and user behavior.
The final product exceeded the client’s expectations, with over 30 people visiting the website within a short period. She received positive feedback from customers who appreciated the easy-to-use layout and informative content on the website. The website’s success resulted in an increase in customers visiting the cafe.
